FAT CATTLE: (29)
An entry of 29 Prime Cattle this week that met another terrific trade. Smart butchers heifers selling to a premium once again.
Top price of the day per kilo was achieved by H & E Powell, Llwyngwilym who sold a 470kg heifer @ 255p/kg = £1198.50.
Top price in the lump was achieved by H Harding & Son, Gwynt Farm who sold a 730kg steer @ 180p/kg = £1314.

FAT LAMBS: (1615)
An entry of 1605 prime lambs on Wednesday 17th June 2020.This was a reduced entry but bearing in mind the easier trade, the weather and vendors in general being on top of their lambs. The SQQ on the day was 216.65p/kg with the overall average at 216.43p/kg, the average for the same market in 2019 was 204.86p/kg. 192 Lights averaged 220.46p/kg varying from 202p/kg to 229p/kg. The top call from R O Thomas Bryncoch with 32kg at £73.50. 696 Standards averaged 214.85p/kg varying from 200p/kg to 238p/kg. The top call of £91.50 for 38.5kg was achieved by Claybury Texels Ensdon. 613 Mediums averaged 217.59p/kg and up to 240p/kg from T H Vaughan & Son Maes Mochnant Uchaf, R M & G Hughes Ty Canol also sold 45kg lambs at £106 per head in this category. 38 Heavy’s averaged 212.07p/kg and up to 223p/kg again from T H Vaughan & Son Maes Mochnant Uchaf, J H & S E Roberts & Sons Rolly Farm sold Heavy lambs to peak at £110.50.

FAT EWES: (622)
A marked increase in the trade with Welsh ewes much more in demand, however over fat ewes again hard to place. Overall average was £54 with a top price of £115 for Texel ewes from R M & G Hughes, Trefonen. A small selection of Rams averaged £75 with a top price of £103 for a tup from P A Woolley, Lower Frankton.

CALVES & WEANLINGS: (41)
Nice to see a few more calves on show and an increased number of buyers. Top prices went to a pair of suckler bred Charolais calves from J E & J T Evans & Son, Llanidloes with a bull selling for £425 & a heifer for £388. Limousin bulls to £275 from D B & S L Owen, Bonciau. British Blue bulls to £288 from R G Whittall, Lower Maen. Hereford Bulls to £245 & £225 from T Lewis, Crumpwell; £240 from Ede & Son, Sutton Green. Aberdeen Angus Bulls to £112 from D E Ward, Manor Farm. Limousin heifers to £212 from D B & S L Owen, Bonciau. Hereford heifers to £222 & £208 from T Lewis, Crumpwell. Aberdeen Angus heifers to £135 from Messrs Davies, Lower Fawnog. The best show of Friesian bulls in some time topped at £135 from J O J & E J Steele, Treflach Hall; £78 from P H & P M Clay & Son, Brook Farm. Smaller sorts selling from £18 - £50.
A small show of Weanlings from J R James & Son, Church Farm again attracted considerable interest with British Blue steers selling for £478 and British Blue heifers to £442.
STORE CATTLE: (106)
A slight reduction in numbers but no less demand, if anything a firmer trade was seen throughout. Top price was £1200 (211p/kg) paid for a Limousin steer aged 19 months sold by G H Daulby, Llandrinio.
58 steers averaged £839 (195p/kg) & 46 heifers averaged £826 (201p/kg) with notable prices including:
B Francis, Llanfair Caereinion sold 3 Blonde D'Aquataine steers aged 11 months for £890 (236p/kg) and Blonde D'Aquataine heifers at a similar age for £890 (231p/kg) & £885 (231p/kg).
£1090 (222p/kg) & £1000 (213p/kg) paid for Limousin steers aged 17 months sold by C E & G J Roberts, Cefn Coch.
£1030 (240p/kg) & £930 paid for British Blue heifers aged 24 & 19 months sold by J H Williams, Llansilin.
£895 (218p/kg) paid for 3 Limousin heifers aged 14 months sold by D S Jones & Co, Abermule.
