OSWESTRY LIVESTOCK AUCTIONS. MARKET REPORT.31:01:18.
Good morning from Oswestry Livestock Auctions where we had a sunny but cold winter’s morning even though around and about snow showers were reported. Quite a sheep day today with some 2829 Hoggets & 735 Ewes & Rams and just 64 cattle, with a strong trade across the board.
FAT CATTLE: (23)
A limited number of cattle forward met another firm trade throughout. A good show of heifers in as well. Top slots hit 237p for Heifers, 198p for Steers and a Bull at 193p. Highest price in the lump was £1379 for a steer. Please make sure all cattle are clean and double tagged when offered for sale. Standards average 188p/kg to 213p/kg from J A Watkin Abernaint
Mediums average 199.5p/kg to 226p/kg from G M & D Hughes & Son Lower Halton Farm
Heavy’s average 198.5p/kg to 224p/kg from N Turnbull Cysgod
Others average 180.5p/kg to 193p/kg from H E Pugh Grove Farm
Overall average 188p/kg.
FAT EWES: (735)
Similar numbers with the trade holding at a good level throughout with an overall average of £47. Top price was £116 paid for a Texel ewe sold by I G Evans & Son, Halton. Ram trade a little bit more patchy with an average of £49 and a top price of £100 for a tup from R H Manford & Son, Chirk.
Ceva will be providing free blood testing of Barren Ewes for infectious abortion on Wed 7th Feb – with Cain Vets, on Wed 21st Feb – with Shropshire Farm Vets
and on Wed 7th March – with Park Issa Vets.

Fewer calves forward this week with keen demand for the very best, British Friesian Bulls again keenly contested selling in excess of £200. A very good show of weanlings sold to strong demand for good quality. Leading prices - British Blue Bulls to £375 from Messrs Evans Forge Farm, £285 from Messrs Lewis Trefonen Hall. Limousin Bulls to £340 & £305 from Messrs Foulkes Selattyn Lodge, £335 from Messrs Eyres Abertanat Farm, £300 from Messrs Jerman Coedmawr. Limousin Heifers to £300 from Messrs Roberts Ty Issa. Aberdeen Angus Bulls to £196 from Messrs Owen Tanycoed. Friesian Bulls to £216 from Messrs Lewis Crumpwell, £140, £120 & £100 from Messrs Jerman Coedmawr, £108 from Messrs Francis New Barns Farm.
Limousin Steers 4-6 mo to £450 & £445, Limousin Heifers 5-6 mo to £470 twice & £465 twice, British Blue Steers 5 mo to £430, British Blue Heifers 6mo to £410, Welsh Black Heifers 4 mo to £450 all from Messrs Thomas Edgebold.
