FAT CATTLE: (21)
A limited number of cattle on show today but no shortage of quality with some very good runs of butchers heifers forward. Top slots hit 247p/kg for Heifers, 205p/kg for Steers and a bull to 170p/kg. Highest price in the lump was £1432 for a Heifer, bottom book of 130p/kg for a friesian heifer. An overall average of 206.5p/kg was achieved. A much improved trade on last week with the strongest and smartest ewes still looking the best sold. A respectable overall average of £47 with a top price of £110 for ewes from
W Jones, Llanfyllin. 31 Rams averaged £44 with a top price of £110 for a Texel tup from T & B Williams, Llangedwyn.
Ceva will be providing free blood testing of Barren Ewes for infectious abortion on Wed 31st Jan – with Shropshire Farm Vets, on Wed 7th Feb – with Cain Vets, on Wed 21st Feb – with Shropshire Farm Vets and on Wed 7th March – with Park Issa Vets.

Nonetheless best continental males topping at £355 and Females to £285, British friesian bulls unquestionably showing the most gain selling to keen competition and a high of £215. A great start to the year in terms of numbers with a really good mix of suckler & dairy bred cattle on show, all rewarded with an excellent trade. Top price was £1280 (191p/kg) paid for a British Blue x Heifer aged 26 months sold by B Francis, Llanfair Caereinion.

Tyfos Farms, Llandrillo presented their first show of the season with Limousin x steers aged 11-15 months selling for £1155 (221p/kg), £1025 (224p/kg), £945 (236p/kg), £920 (243p/kg) & £890 (246p/kg).
£1130 (228p/kg) & £1070 (230p/kg) paid for Charolais x steers aged 18-19 months sold by C Jones & Son, Dolanog
£1090 (225p/kg) paid for 2 Limousin x steers aged 21 months sold by W Watkin, Brithdir.
