A belated Happy New Year to you all from Oswestry Livestock and welcome to our 2nd sale of the new year where a good entry of lambs took advantage of the nice rise in trade available this week lets hope it’s a positive sign for the year ahead. Store cattle trade started today quality cattle and a good trade all through.
FAT CATTLE: (49)
A larger entry of quality well meated cattle on offer today, Top slots hit 245p/kg for Heifers, 211p/kg for Steers. Highest price in the lump was £1438 for a 660kg Heifer from W G & D E Woosnam Upper Gwestydd, Overall Market average of 201p/kg. FAT HOGGETS: (2872)
A cracking show of Hoggs on offer with a tidy trade for what’s in the pen, big small and indifferent. Out of about 2900 hoggs present over 1300 of them under 36kg and over half of them sired by a native tup, returning an overall and very respectable average of 179p/kg. When other markets say “they’ll spoil our average”, we say “gates open 6am look forward to seeing you Wednesday”.

Not much bite about the trade today with only the best ewes attracting any serious competition. Overall average of £32 which reflected the high number of Welsh ewes on show. Top price was £89 for a Charrolais ewe from J T Davies & Co, Rhiwlas. 59 Rams of mixed quality sold to an average of £36 with a top price of £116 for a Texel tup from
T I & C M Jones, Llangollen. Please Note :- Shropshire Farm Vets will be providing free blood testing of Barren Ewes for infectious abortion on Wednesday 17th January, Wednesday 31st January and Wednesday 21st February.
