OSWESTRY LIVESTOCK AUCTIONS. MARKET REPORT.8:11:17.
After a frosty start what a beautiful day to be trading at Oswestry Livestock Auctions, just short of 4000 head of livestock turned in to be traded on to others at vendors advantage. Lambs look well sold at about 170p/kg, Beef and Barrens good and an excellent show of store cattle met an improved trade, small show of store lambs in demand. Special entry of very nice Ewe lambs next week followd by a special entry of In lamb ewes on 6th December.
FAT CATTLE: (38)
Short on smart butchers heifers today but all the same a firm trade again today on all types. Nice to see some old faces back again today and leaving with a smile on their face. Top slots hit 231p for Heifers 230p for Steers and 218p for Bulls. Highest price in the lump was £1467 for a Heifer, bottom book of 124p for a lean friesian steer. FAT LAMBS: (2782)
A very good entry of 2782 Prime lambs, the quality on offer was of high standard and this was reflected in the averages with the overall average at 170p/kg. Some of the top quality sheep commanded very high prices as can be seen below. 165 Lights averaged 157p/kg varying from 113p/kg to 209p/kg. The top call was from J H Jones Derwen with 32kg at £67. 934 Standards averaged 167.5p/kg varying from 152p/kg to 230p/kg. The top call from E Lloyd & Co Garthiaen with 33.5kg at £77. 1078 Mediums sold to average 173p/kg varying from 142p/kg to 199p/kg with 44kg making £87.50 also from E Lloyd & Co Garthiaen. J H Jones Derwen also topped the 498 heavy’s at 215p/kg with 46kg at £99, this section averaged 170p/kg. The trade today was 11.5p/kg better than the same day in 2016.
FAT EWES: (802)
Trade sticking at a more consistent level with stronger ewes still looking the best sold. Overall average at £36 with a top price of £99 for some heavy Crossbred ewes from
R H Buckley & Son, Llangedwyn. Some better quality tups on show helped the average up to £62 with a top price of £126 for a Charolais tup from K C Jones, Llangynog.
