OSWESTRY LIVESTOCK AUCTIONS. MARKET REPORT.18:10:17.
Hello from your local Oswestry Livestock Auctions and for those who hadn’t noticed we’ve gone a week without rain!! cant be bad, to see your stock doing so well, as can be seen by the increased average weight of your lambs, less lambs about this week after last weeks increased numbers around the country and nice to see an increase in trade when other yards have seen a slight fall in trade. In summary steady numbers across our market with pleasing trade throughout.
FAT CATTLE: (42)
Some nice runs of cattle in front of us today met a firmer trade for our eight present buyers. Top slots flew to 257p for heifer, 224p for bulls and 215p for steers. Highest price in the lump was £1757 for a bull, bottom book of 165p for a dairy bred heifer. An overall market average of 213.5p was achieved. FAT LAMBS: (1849)
As a result of a smaller entry of 1849 prime lambs all categories of lambs were much easier sold except for the Superlights. 249 Lights averaged 150.31p/kg varying from 102p/kg to 183p/kg, the top call was from H E & M L Evans Cynynnion Fawr with 30kg at £55. 518 Standards averaged 165.75p/kg varying from 142p/kg to 186p/kg. The top call again was from H E & M L Evans Cynynnion Fawr with 37kg at £69. 763 Mediums averaged 171.56p/kg, varying from 140p/kg to 191p/kg, peaking at £77.50 for 40.5kg from R O Thomas Bryncoch. 246 Heavy’s averaged 168.87p/kg and sold up to £91 from T H Williams Bwlchbach.
FAT EWES: (701)
Less on show helped the trade out again with the overall average of £31 fairly represented the large
proportion of Welsh ewes on show. Top price was £90 for ewes from Hughes Bros, Glyn Ceiriog. 14 Tups averaged £62 with a top price of £113 going to a Suffolk ram from
T H Nicholas & Son, West Felton.

Increased numbers selling to a much more variable trade. Best continental bulls still keenly contested but heifers harder to sell, fewer buyers forward for the also rans, consequently returns not so favourable today. Nonetheless best British Blue Bulls topping at £360 from Messrs Whittall Lower Maen £355 & £340 from Messrs Lewis Caenymynydd. Simmental Bulls to £355 from Messrs James Church Farm. Limousin Bulls to £325 from Messrs Davies Lower Fawnog £285 from Messrs Andrew Neuadd Uchaf £270 from Messrs Jerman Coedmawr. British Blue Heifers to £300 from Messrs Evans Wern Farm £290 from Messrs Ward Manor Farm. Charolais Heifers to £300 from Messrs Pryce Coedmawr £262 from Messrs Andrew Neuadd Uchaf. Aberdeen Angus Bulls to £250 from Messrs James Church Farm. Hereford Heifers to £220 from Messrs Foulkes Maesteg £200 from Messrs Evans Wern Farm. Friesian Bulls to £95 from Messrs Gilman Birch Hall.

Trade still there for cattle of all types. Top price was £1160 (211p/kg) paid for a pair of Charolais x steers aged 20 months sold by C Jones & Son, Dolanog.

£785 (233p/kg) paid for 4 Limousin x steers aged 14 months sold by M Griffiths, Llandrinio.
£720 (218p/kg) paid for a Limousin x steer aged 12 months sold by D M Williams, Llangollen.
£860 (212p/kg) paid for a Limousin x steer aged 16 months sold by T I Morris, Llanrhaeadr.
36 heifers averaged £817 (183p/kg) with notable prices including:
£855 (219p/kg) paid for a Limousin x heifer aged 15 months sold by D M Williams, Llangollen.
£730 (215p/kg) paid for a Limousin x heifer aged 11 months sold by D Knapp, Penley.
£795 (212p/kg) paid for a Limousin x heifer aged 15 months sold by T I Morris, Llanrhaeadr.
