FAT CATTLE: (40)
A good show of cattle again this week sold to another firm trade for our selection on offer. Top slots hit 250p for Heifers, 199p for Steers and 173p for Bulls. Highest price in the lump was £1325 for a Heifer. Bottom book of 148p for a friesian steer. Overall market average of 193.5p/kg was achieved.

FAT LAMBS: (3616)
An excellent entry of 3616 prime lambs, this was an increase of 1580 on the corresponding day in 2016. As a result of the large entry the trade was back on the day with the SQQ average at 157.41p/kg with the overall average at 158.12p/kg. 425 Lights averaged 138.71p/kg varying from 112p/kg to 171p/kg. The top call was from H E & M L Evans Cynynnion Fawr with 28kg at £48. 1071 Standards averaged 154.97p/kg varying from 132p/kg to 176p/kg. 1399 Mediums average 162.46p/kg with the top call of 190p/kg from Bowyer Preeshenlle with 44kg at £83.80. 580 Heavy’s sold to average 161.14p/kg up to 184p/kg from Bowyer Preeshenlle with 48kg at £88.50. The overweight lambs sold to £96.50 from
R M & G Hughes Ty Canol.
FAT EWES: (799)
A bit more spark in the trade with prices throughout a touch better than that seen in recent weeks.
Overall average £32.58 with a top price of £89 going to a Texel ewe from T & B Williams, Llangedwyn. 15 Rams averaged £84 with a top price of £134 for a Ram from D E & R Williams, Llansilin.

A much improved quality entry selling to a marginally sharper trade with more buyers present this week. Best continental bulls still keenly contested but heifers good value for money today. British friesian bulls showing the most gain today topping at £145. British Blue Bulls to £335 from Messrs Lewis Caenymynydd. Limousin Bulls to £275 from Messrs Jones Moat Farm. Aberdeen Angus Bulls to £288 & £258 from Messrs Ede Willow Farm. Simmental Bulls to £290 from Messrs Jones Moat Farm. Limousin Heifers to £252 & £235 from Messrs Jones Ladyhill. British Blue Heifers to £240 & £230 from Messrs Evans Maesmochnant. Aberdeen Angus Heifers to £240 & £225 from Messrs Ede Willow Farm. Hereford Bulls to £225 from Messrs Foulkes Maesteg. A few less around but a good trade throughout with a lot of Hereford and Angus cattle on show. Top
priced steer was £1280 (190p/kg) paid for a 28 month old Simmental x steer and top priced heifer was £1180 (197p/kg) paid for a 28 month old Simmental x heifer both sold by P I Edwards, Dudleston.
44 steers averaged £881 (188p/kg) with notable prices including:
£1155 (210p/kg) & £1000 (211p/kg) paid for Charolais & Limousin x steers aged 18-19 months sold by W G Savage, Llanymynech.
£825 (217p/kg) paid for a British Blue x steer aged 16 months sold by W R Taylor, Llansilin.
£800 (208p/kg) paid for a Limousin x steer aged 16 months sold by D M Hughes, Morton.
36 heifers averaged £801 (184p/kg) with notable prices including:
£1080 (223p/kg) paid for a Limousin x heifer aged 18 months sold by R W Roberts, Llanfyllin.
£1070 (212p/kg) & £975 (219p/kg) paid for Bazadaise x heifers aged 12 – 18 months sold by
G R Moseley & Son, Knockin.
£870 (215p/kg) paid for a Limousin x heifer aged 20 months sold by D R & J A Evans, Selattyn.

A similar entry of OTM’S met a consistent trade as of recent weeks at Oswestry, and maybe quite some better than other local centres, Steers to 174p/kg, Heifers to 180p/kg, Beef cows to 165p/kg, Dairy Cows to 126p/kg
