FAT CATTLE: (18)
An entry of 18 Prime Cattle this week that met another pleasing trade.
A better show of butchers heifers forward this week sold to 247p/kg.
Top price of the day per kilo was achieved by GW & BA Haynes, Trefnant Isaf who sold a 540kg heifer @ 247p/kg = £1333
DC Evans, Pen y Waen, Denbigh presented 3 meaty Limousin and British Blue x heifers that averaged 238p/kg with the best selling to 245p/kg.

545kg @ 242p/kg = £1318.90 DC Evans

FAT LAMBS: (88) FAT HOGGETS: (1646)
A very respectful entry of 88 Spring lambs and 1646 Prime Hoggets, on Wednesday 8th April 2020. Considering the short easter week the entry was very acceptable.
The trade on the day was much improved, compared with local markets in the region the previous day, our averages :-
88 Spring lambs 265.65p/kg
1646 Prime Hoggets 205.37p/kg SQQ, 201.15p/kg overall.
47 Standard spring lambs averaged 266.88p/kg varying from 235p/kg to 333p/kg. The top call was from D T Roberts Ty Issa with 36kg at £120.
30 Medium spring lambs averaged 266.26p/kg varying from 247p/kg to 284p/kg. The top call came from P & G Jones Bank Farm with 39.5kg at £112.
The hogget yard consisted of a great range of variation, with many native bred lambs in the equation.
The 455 Standard Hoggets averaged 193.36p/kg varying from 174p/kg to 226p/kg with the top call of £88 for 39kg from D G & B E Jenkins Gaer Fawr.
691 Medium Hoggets averaged 214.38p/kg varying from 184p/kg to 262p/kg. The top call of £118 from F Bennett Springfields for 45kg.
139 Heavy’s averaged 197.59p/kg and up to 234p/kg from R H Edwards The Stocks (£110 for 47kg),
or £115.50 per head (231p/kg for 50kg) from J H & S E Roberts & Son Rolly Farm, with the 124 overweights averaging 173.84p/kg or £98.90.
More sheep are needed each week but please pre book them to avoid disappointment.

FAT EWES: (328)
A noticeable increase in the trade this week with the strongest ewes being most in demand. Plenty of ewes back over the £100 mark, with an overall average of £77 and a top price of £155 going to a Texel ewe from C R Deane, Tetchill.

CALVES & WEANLINGS: (12)
A small show of calves which was disappointing as some buyers left empty handed. Limousin bulls sold to £240 from F G Windsor, Kempton Farm, £238 from W H Davies & Sons, Park Mill Farm. Limousin heifers to £195 & £188 from T Lewis, Crumpwell. More calves urgently required to meet demand, please contact Jon Bevan (07837 385062) with entries.
STORE CATTLE: (148)
A slightly more mixed entry with the trade perhaps not hitting the highs of recent weeks with some older cattle being affected by the fall in the beef market. Top price was £1145 (187.7 p/kg) paid for a Charolais x steer aged 22 months sold by C Jones & Son, Dolanog.
89 steers averaged £849 (191p/kg) and 59 heifers averaging £780 (187p/kg) with notable prices including:
£770 (257p/kg) & £770 (230p/kg) paid for Limousin steers aged 10-12 months and £735 (253p/kg),
£730 (228p/kg) & £660 (236p/kg) paid for Limousin & Charolais heifers aged 10-12 months all sold by H E & M L Evans, Rhydycroesau.
£730 (239p/kg) paid for a Limousin steer aged 8 months and £695 (234p/kg) paid for 3 Charolais heifers aged 9 months all sold by R E Jones & Son, Brooks.
£980 (231p/kg) paid for 2 Limousin steers aged 11 months and £1120 (224p/kg) paid for 2 Limousin heifers aged 22 months all sold by R Roberts, Penycae.
£920 (233p/kg) paid for a Charolais steer aged 11 months sold by D M & R C Rees, Mochdre.
