FAT HOGGETS: (1907)
Hoggets hit 310p/kg at Oswestry!
A good entry of 1907 prime hoggets on Wednesday 4th March 2020.The entry was up 300 sheep on the same sale last year with the average on the day 233.62p/kg compared with 196.98p/kg in 2019. 10 buyers were present representing 30 orders. The quality would be quite varied with some excellent lambs in the lines as well as a large number of native bred lambs. 300 Lights averaged 220p/kg varying from 196p/kg to 248p/kg. The top call per kilo came from H W & D A Davies Tynant with 31kg at £76.80, and top per head was from Bronhyddon Farms with 32kg at £78 (244p/kg). 367 Standards averaged 228.66p/kg peaking at 257p/kg from Hughes Bros Penybryn with 38kg at £97.50. 777 Mediums averaged 239.14p/kg varying from 207p/kg to 310p/kg. The top call of 310p/kg was from M & S Jones Lower Forest Farm with 43.5kg at £135. The Jones Family sold 52 hoggs to average 285.25p/kg and £129.40 per head with the average weight being 45.37kg. 210 Heavy’s averaged 227.84p/kg varying from 202p/kg to 268p/kg with the top call again from M & S Jones Lower Forest Farm. 81 overweights averaged 218.71p/kg selling to £138 per head from C Sneade Trwstllewelyn. More sheep are required each week to fulfil demand. Remember we have good covered lairage to assist drawing large consignments of sheep if they are coming off roots or tack.
FAT EWES: (537)
A mixed entry of ewes on show still met with a strong trade throughout averaging £71. Top price was £153 for a Texel ewe from H C Roberts, Selattyn. 43 tups averaged £88 with a top price of £113 for 5 Cheviot Rams from F A Jones, Babbinswood.

CALVES & WEANLINGS: (22)
Only a small entry today but quality much improved. Trade therefore quite considerably sharper with best males keenly contested. Leading prices: British Blue Bulls to £300 from Messrs Bowen Glanwantyn. Limousin Bulls to £262, £232 & £224 from Messrs Jones Ladyhill. Hereford Bulls to £278 & £275 from Messrs Rees Highfield. Aberdeen Angus Bulls to £222 from Messrs Benbow Pump House. Hereford Heifers to £200 from Messrs Rees Highfield. British Blue Heifers to £188 from Messrs Foulkes Maesteg. Aberdeen Angus Heifers to £132 from Messrs Rees Highfield.

Still plenty of buyers looking for cattle with a total clearance reported. Top price was £1150 (205p/kg) paid for a Limousin steer aged 21 months sold by D E & E Davies, Sarn.
72 steers averaged £893 (203p/kg) with notable prices including:
£830 (248p/kg) paid for 2 Limousin steers aged 12 months sold by R J & G E Jones & Son, Meifod.
£800 (242p/kg) paid for a Charolais steer aged 9 months sold by T S Davies, Dolanog.
£760 (234p/kg) paid for 3 Limousin steers aged 10 months sold by R E Astley, Llanerfyl.

£1070 (217p/kg) & £1065 (222p/kg) paid for Charolais & Blue heifers aged 16 months sold by A & L C Evans, Dinas Mawddwy.
