FAT HOGGETS: (2366)
An excellent entry of 2366 Prime Hoggets on Wednesday 19 February 2020. This was a very pleasing entry when many other neighbouring markets have seen reduced entries during the last three weeks. 10 buyers represented 32 individual firms which returned an overall average of 228.39p/kg with the SQQ at 229.7p/kg. A very high percentage of the hoggets on offer were of native breeding with a slight shortage of the very best continental export types. 419 light hoggets averaged 218.66p/kg varying from 185p/kg to 256p/kg. The top call came from G L Jones Henblas with 31kg at £79.50. 710 standard hoggets averaged 230.91p/kg ranging from 200p/kg to 257p/kg. The top call came from
R H Buckley & Sons Cefn Isaf who sold 32.5kg to £83.50. 801 medium hoggets averaged 232.76p/kg, varying from 202p/kg to 251p/kg with the top call per kilo coming from
M J Tomlins Wigmore Lane with 43kg at £108, and top call per head coming from I G Evans & Son, Halton Farm, with 44.5kg at £110 (247p/kg). The 271 heavy hoggets averaged 226.12p/kg with the overweight’s at 215p/kg. The top call of the day per head was £136.50. More sheep are required each week to fulfil demand. Remember we have excellent covered areas to draw large consignments of sheep off roots or grazing lands.
FAT EWES: (607)
Steady numbers but a fantastic trade with the strongest ewes looking the best sold. A cracking overall average of £72 was topped with an excellent run of 32 ewes from
F Jackson & Son, Coed-y-Goe with a top price of £155 and an average for the consignment of £136. 45 Rams also sold to a better trade, averaging £81 with a top price of £131 for a Texel tup from F A Jones, Babbinswood.

CALVES & WEANLINGS: (38)
Similar numbers with best continental bulls again keenly contested, females noticeably easier today, smaller sorts sharper. Leading prices: Limousin Bulls to £301 & £297 from Messrs Roberts Ty Issa, £265 & £225 from Messrs Jerman Coedmawr, £245 from Messrs Jones Ladyhill. British Blue Bulls to £250 from Messrs Lewis Crumpwell, £235 from Messrs Evans Wern Farm. Aberdeen Angus Bulls to £200 from Messrs Benbow Pump House. Limousin Heifers to £235 from Messrs Jones Ladyhill, £232 (twice) from Messrs Roberts Ty Issa. British Blue Heifers to £195 from Messrs Lewis Crumpwell, £185 from Messrs Williams Nil Green.
STORE CATTLE: (176)
Another good show of cattle with some feeding types seeing another increase in the already buoyant trade. Top price was £1200 (207p/kg) paid for a Charolais steer aged 17 months sold by H J Morris, Llangynog.
98 steers averaged £946 (193p/kg) with notable prices including:
£845 (215p/kg) & £815 (223p/kg) paid for Limousin steers aged 9-10 months sold by P G Roberts, Cymdu.
£845 (215p/kg) paid for 2 Charolais steers aged 11 months sold by C A Davies, Llidiartywaun.
£1110 (214p/kg) paid for 2 Limousin steers aged 22 months sold by B T Jones & S Ingram, Pontfadog.
78 heifers averaged £850 (195p/kg) with notable prices including:
£995 (228p/kg) paid for 5 Charolais heifers aged 20 months sold by P G & V Jones, Nantyr.
£980 (211p/kg) & £920 (217p/kg) paid for Charolais & Limousin heifers aged 15-19 months sold by Edwards & Co, Cemmaes Road.
£885 (211p/kg) paid for 2 Charolais heifers aged 18 months sold by J M Davies & Sons, Llangollen.
