FAT HOGGETS: (1840)
A good entry of 1840 Hoggs on Wednesday 12th February. This was a very acceptable entry on the day compared with other local markets. The quality on offer was very good and it was a credit to all the vendors who showed the sheep and many people commented on the standard and presentation on offer. The overall average was 238.74p/kg with SQQ at 240.59p/kg with the 2019 averages 182.97p/kg & 185.75p/kg respectively. 191 Lights averaged 236.84p/kg varying from 219p/kg to 256p/kg. The top call was from
T A Morris & Son Pantymaen with 32kg at £82. 591 Standards averaged 241.57p/kg varying from 205p/kg to 264p/kg. The top call was from F A Jones Sandstone with 33kg at £87. 643 Mediums averaged 240.62p/kg. The range was from 195p/kg to 269p/kg with M & S Jones Lower Forest topping this section with 42kg at £113. M & S Jones sold a consignment of 52 hoggs to average 262p/kg or £120.40. 283 Heavy’s averaged 237/kg with the overweights averaging 221.24p/kg. The top call of the day was £131.50. More hoggs are required each week to fulfil demand. We have a good covered yard and plenty of facilities to sort out consignments straight off root crops and large grazing areas.
FAT EWES: (586)
Similar numbers but not really enough to meet demand with another strong trade and a healthy overall average of £61. Top price was £149 going to 4 Charollais ewes from
R S & J A Gregory, Harmer Hill. 45 Rams averaged £67 with a top price of £103 for 5 tups from G Jones & Son, Llanfyllin.

A much better selection today with 50% of the entry Limousins. A decent trade for good continentals with small poorer types still harder to sell.
