FAT CATTLE: (30)
Some very good meated heifers forward today selling to another firm trade throughout. Top slots hit 237p for Heifers and 183p for Bulls. Highest in the lump was £1287 for a Heifer, bottom book of 149p for a lean bull. An overall market average of 195p was achieved. Make sure cattle are clean and double tagged when offered for sale.

FAT HOGGETS: (1667)
A good consistent entry of 1667 prime hoggs on Wednesday 22nd January 2020. Unfortunately numbers are quieter in all parts of the country, therefore keeping the trade steady with a strong demand. On the same week in January 2019 OLA sold 2306 hoggs to average 188p/kg whereas this year the 1667 sold to average 209p/kg or £79.89 for every lamb in the yard and up to £114.20 per head. 302 Lights averaged 203.17p/kg, varying from 185p/kg to 228p/kg. The top call was from W T Thomas Llwythder Isa selling 32kg at £73. 671 Standards averaged 211.13p/kg, ranging from 186p/kg to 239p/k. The top call was from M J Tomlins with 36kg at £86. 397 Mediums averaged 209.4p/kg, peaking at 231p/kg from M & S Jones Lower Forest with 43kg at £99.20. 188 Heavy’s averaged 204.17p/kg and sold to £107 from F Bennett Springfield Farm. The 62 overweight hoggs averaged £106.57 and sold to £114.20. More sheep are required each week to fulfil the strong demand. FAT EWES: (504)
A slightly larger entry with the trade not quite reaching the heights of the last few weeks but still very satisfactory on the whole with a pleasing overall average of £64. Top price went to ewes from N R & S R Hulme Ellesmere reaching £113. 50 tups the majority of which were in their working clothes averaged £63.

CALVES & WEANLINGS: (43)
Fewer calves forward this week with trade marginally easier for all sorts. Quite a large proportion of weaned calves 3/4mo also sold at slightly easier demand. Leading Prices:- calves: British Blue Bulls to £290 from Messrs Williams Nil Green, £275 & £260 from Messrs Owen Upper Garth, £270 from Messrs Hughes Old Sontley Hall, £250 from Messrs Whittall Lower Maen. British Blue Heifers to £210 & £185 from Messrs Whittall Lower Maen, £175 from Messrs Williams Nil Green. Limousin Bulls to £198 from Messrs Jones Lythwell. Limousin Heifers to £188 from Messrs Jones Lythwell. Hereford Heifers to £145 from Messrs Williams Nil Green.
Weaned Calves (3/4mo): British Blue Bulls to £380, £345, £320 & £300, Charolais Bulls to £340, British Blue Heifers to £300 & £290 (twice), Charolais Heifers to £300 all from Messrs Lewis Caenymynydd.

An excellent entry of quality store cattle with a lot of stronger suckler bred cattle on show.
Top price £1180 (207p/kg) paid for a Limousin x Steer aged 18 months sold by D E & R M Williams Llansilin.
