FAT CATTLE: (29)
An entry of 29 clean cattle was met with a strong trade for Butchers types. Steers averaged 165p/kg, Heifers saw an average of 193p/kg. Heifers peaked at 230p/kg, and Steers peaked at 180p/kg. Another improvement in the trade with more demand for stronger ewes in particular. Overall average was £44 with a top price of £100 for 2 Texel ewes from E J Jackson,
STORE SHEEP: (130)
This week we had a small entry of 127 store lambs that sold to a terrific trade throughout. Demand is currently very strong for store lambs and more lambs are needed each week to satisfy the demand. Tup lambs averaged £59.25 with a top price of £60 going to E T Morris Tynycelyn. Ewe lambs averaged £51.32 and a top price of £58 being achieved by

Considerably increased numbers but best continentals in short supply. Demand for best sorts again sharper with more buyers in attendance. Poor calves very difficult to sell. A small entry of weanlings well sold. Leading prices: British Blue Bulls to £285, £260 & £250 from Messrs Lewis Jones Grange Farm, £280 from Messrs Foulkes Maesteg, £265 from Messrs Davies Lower Fawnog. Hereford Bulls to £280 from Messrs Ede Willow Farm, £200 from Messrs Wigley New Hall. Limousin Bulls to £250 & £245 from Messrs Jones Lythwell. Consistent weekly numbers still coming forward which is nice to see as the season draws on. Again a slight improvement in trade with some quality stores on show. Top prices were £1165 (179p/kg) for a Blue steer aged 24 months and £1070 (160p/kg) for a British Blue heifer aged 24 months both sold by G M & D Hughes & Son, Lower Halton.
94 steers averaged £882 (179p/kg) with notable prices including:
£935 (215p/kg) paid for 2 Limousin steers aged 15 months sold by R J Slater & Son, Baschurch.
£965 (204p/kg) paid for 3 Charolais steers aged 17 months sold by P G & V Jones, Nantyr.
£965 (203p/kg) paid for a Blue steer aged 16 months sold by A P Savage, Llanymynech.
