FAT CATTLE: (18)
A decent show of cattle forward today met another similar trade on the week but some very smart meated butchers heifers in the mix. Top slots hit 244p for Heifers and 167p for Steers. Highest in the lump was £1367 for a heifer. Bottom book of 104p for an aged welsh black steer. Overall market average of 187p was achieved. FAT EWES: (594)
Less around with trade looking very similar to recent weeks with the poorest ewes again looking the best sold. Overall average was £41 with a top price of £107 for a Charollais ewe from R S & J A Gregory, Harmer Hill.
STORE SHEEP: (224)
This week we saw a good show of 224 store lambs that met a solid trade throughout. There were some very good lambs forward this week which is reflected in the averages, with the tup lambs averaging £54.69. Top price of the day was £64.50 from A Hughes The Springs for a terrific pen of 16 texel x tup lambs. Ewe lambs topped at £59.50 from K C Jones Rushmeadow. A Marginally improved trade with a few more buyers present. Demand rather limited with only a few of the better sorts creating any real interest. British Friesian Bulls continue to sell well. Leading prices: Limousin Bulls to £332 & £222 from Messrs Owen Bonciau, £260 from Messrs Jones Lythwell. Charolais Bulls to £290 from Messrs Eyton Farms. Steady weekly numbers continue through the Autumn with buyers still being selective on their purchases. Top price was £1030 (187p/kg) paid for a Charolais steer aged 19 months sold by W E Owen, Llanyblodwell. Other notable prices included:
£905 (201p/kg) paid for a Limousin steer aged 14 months sold by R E Astley, Llanerfyl.
£950 (200p/kg) paid for a Charolais steer aged 18 months sold by W E Owen, Llanyblodwell.
£875 (199p/kg) paid for a Bazadaise steer aged 14 months sold by A M Ellis & Co, Foel.
£855 (192p/kg) & £805 (204p/kg) paid for Limousin & Charolais heifers aged 17-18 months sold by Edwards & Co, Cemmaes Road.
£875 (190p/kg), £860 (191p/kg) & £840 (190p/kg) paid for Limousin steers aged 15-17 months sold by R J Slater & Son, Baschurch.
