FAT EWES: (927)
An improved entry was met with some spirited bidding helping to keep the trade at a similar sort of level throughout. Overall average was £40 with a top price of £111 for Texel ewes from N Turnbull, Llanfyllin.
STORE SHEEP: (572)
This week we saw a tremendous entry of 558 breeding ewes & lambs that met a terrific trade from start to finish. Top price of the day went to A Roberts Glanyrafon who sold 20 mule yearling ewes for £116, closely followed by R H Morris & Sons Y Felin who sold 44 welsh mule yearling ewes for £110. J & E & R Griffiths Bryngwyn presented a terrific run of 60 mule yearling ewes that sold for £105. Welsh ewes were very much in demand with the best 3 year old ewes reaching £71 from I V Jones Rhianfa. A small entry of 22 welsh mule ewe lambs from Thomas Bros Nantganol met a strong trade selling for £83. Breeding rams also met strong trade with the best yearling blue faced Leicester ram selling for 380gns from D Edwards Cyrchynan Isaf. Also at 380gns was a texel yearling from J W A Jones Lynton. A smaller entry of 100 store lambs met a solid trade once again with the best tup lambs reaching £60.50 twice from D C Jones & Son Llwyn y Mapsis. CALVES & WEANLINGS: (51)
A generally good quality entry of which 30% were Limousin Heifers sold to keen demand for strong females & males. Poorer types much harder to sell, Vendors are urged to present calves at their best to obtain decent prices. A great show of British Friesian bulls were very keenly contested. Leading prices: Limousin Heifers to £305, £260, £245 & £240 from Messrs Hodgson Arddleen Grange, £260, £250 & £212 from Messrs Roberts Ty Issa. British Blue Bulls to £300 from Messrs Davies Lower Fawnog, £285 & £248 from Messrs Trow Llandinam Hall, £252 from Messrs Evans Wern Farm, £250 from Messrs Jones Lythwell. Aberdeen Angus Bulls to £172 from Messrs Evans Wern Farm. Limousin Bulls to £285 from Messrs Roberts Ty Issa. A good entry of quality stores forward with the trade following a similar pattern to recent weeks with suckler bred cattle again the best sold. Top price was £1170 (183p/kg) paid for a pair of Charolais steers aged 21 months sold by R J & N M Edwards & Sons, Llanarmon D C. Other notable prices included:
£1070 (220p/kg) paid for 2 Charolais steers aged 17 months sold by A L & C Evans, Dinas Mawddwy.
£1020 (210p/kg) & £945 (212p/kg) paid for Charolais steers aged 16 months sold by Edwards & Co, Cemmaes Road.
£680 (209p/kg) paid for Charolais steers aged 10 months and £800 (216p/kg) paid for a Limousin heifer aged 12 months all sold by H E & M L Evans, Rhydycroesau.
£895 (206p/kg) paid for a Limousin steer aged 15 months and £790 (203p/kg) paid for a Limousin heifer aged 16 months both sold by E B & F M Ellis & Sons, Llanwddyn.
£965 (204p/kg) & £925 (206p/kg) paid for Limousin steers aged 15-17 months sold by W T Thomas, Llanarmon D C.
