FAT LAMBS: (2353)
This week we saw a smaller entry of 2353 prime lambs. As expected trade was down on the week with an overall average of 159p/kg being achieved. Generally, the most demand was for the well bred and well fleshed lambs weighing between 43 – 46kg. Top price of the day per kilo was 223p/kg and went to J H Jones Derwen who sold a cracking pen of 35kg lambs for £78.

sold to 183p/kg or £58.50 from H E & M L Evans Cynynnion Fawr.
763 Standards average 157.5p/kg
sold to 223p/kg or £78 from J H Jones Derwen.
934 Mediums average 160.5p/kg
sold to 207p/kg or £85 from J H Jones Derwen.
445 Heavy’s average 158.5p/kg
sold to 176p/kg from W E Owen Garth Issa or £82.50 from H Griffiths Ty Derwen.
FAT EWES: (859)
A standard entry met a mixed trade with buyers still cautious. Overall average was £39 with a top price of £102 for Texel ewes from W D & R E Edwards & Son, Llangedwyn.
18 Rams averaged £52 with a top price of £92 for a Texel tup from D A & M G Griffiths & Son, Rhiwlas.

A quite substantial increase in numbers selling to a decent trade considering the numbers forward, British Friesian Bulls again selling to strong competition to top at £140. Best continentals possibly looking then best value for money today. Small fresh calves well sold. Leading prices: British Blue Bulls to £300 from Messrs Jones Bank Farm, £248 from Messrs Ward Manor Farm, £245 & £205 from Messrs Jones Bank Farm, £235 from Messrs Trow Llandinam Hall, £215 & £200 from Messrs Davies Lower Fawnog. STORE CATTLE: (86)
An average entry of cattle with all sorts on show met with a slightly easier trade which is understandable when considering the current beef market. Some annual consignments of home reared, suckler bred cattle definitely selling to a premium. Charolais bred steers shown by Thomas Bros, Llanfyllin selling to £1055. Limousin and Blue bred steers selling to £1010 & £1005 from D I Jones & Partners, Whittington. Charolais heifers from T M Morgan, Llanerfyl sold to £1020, £990 & £975. Blue Bred heifers to £910 & £895 from
C D Davies & Son, Pontfadog. Younger wintering cattle were sold to cautious buyers with yearling steers to £840 from R E Jones & Son, Brooks and yearling heifers to £765 from
R M Morris, Maengwynedd. Our next sale will be held on the 18th September with entries invited for the sale on the 25th September.
