FAT LAMBS: (1837)
An entry of 1837 prime lambs on 14 August 2019, following our very busy week last week which demonstrated that Oswestry sold the most lambs in one day throughout the whole of the UK during the week leading up to Qurbani. The market average overall was 170.59p/kg with the SQQ at 171p/kg. 365 Standards varied from 149p/kg to 189p/kg averaging 171.63p/kg. The top call came from R O Thomas Bryn Coch with 38.5kg at £71.50. 1010 Mediums averaged 171.53p/kg varying from 143p/kg to 195p/kg. The top call was from
R E & L Jones Farchwell with 45.5kg at £85. 293 Heavy’s sold to average 169.83p/kg varying from 152p/kg to 196p/kg. The top call in this section was again from R E & L Jones Farchwell with 46kg at £90. More lambs are required each week to fulfil our customer base which today totalled 24 buyers.
FAT EWES: (645)
As expected a much reduced entry with a lot more Welsh ewes forward. Plenty of buyers in attendance helped to put a bit more spark in the trade but overall demand still limited. Average was £36 with a top price of £91 for a Texel ewe from J T & G M Edwards, Llantysilio. 29 mainly lighter Rams averaged £47 with a top price of £67 for a Charollais tup from
A P Humphreys, Abermule.

CALVES & WEANLINGS: (30)
A smaller entry was met with a mixed trade with buyers selective in their bidding. Top price was £340 paid for a Limousin bull from I Davies, Llangadfan. Charolais bulls sold to £252 from Messrs Thomas, Cefn Coch. British Blue Bulls to £240 from J P Farms, Kerry, £230 from Messrs Edwards, Bwlchycibau. Aberdeen Angus bulls to £150 from Ede & Son,
Sutton Green. Top priced heifer was £235 for a British Blue heifer from D J H Foulkes & Son, Four Crosses. Other British Blue heifers sold to £215 from J R Thomas & Son, Leighton. Limousin heifers to £228 from Messrs Foulkes, Selattyn, £212 from J & B Richards, Marchwiel. Hereford heifers to £155 from T Lewis, Maesbury.
