FAT CATTLE: (26)
A decent show of cattle forward especially butchers heifers which sold to a firm trade throughout. Top slots hit 250p for Heifers, 176p for Steers and 161p for Bulls. Highest price in the lump was £1305 for a heifer. Bottom book of 150p for a dairy bred steer. An overall market average of 195p/kg. FAT LAMBS: (1308)
A reduced entry of 1308 lambs on Wednesday 12th June. The heaviest and best meated lambs sold to a premium with many good runs of well-bred lambs weighing between
40 – 44kg selling between 225 – 230p/kg. Overall average 213p/kg.
Lights to average 207p/kg with a top price of 210p/kg shown by Bronhyddon Farms and £65 a head shown by T E & G O Evans Frongoch.
Standards to average 211.5p/kg, with a top price of 243p/kg & £87.50 a head shown by F C Roberts Wolfshead
Mediums to average 214.5p/kg, with a top price of 232p/kg shown by J T & A W Davies Tynygraig & W G & S P & M E Foulkes Selattyn Lodge and £102 a head shown by
J T & A W Davies Tynygraig.
Heavy’s to average 213.5p/kg, with a top price of 224p/kg shown by R Richards & Co Maenllyngen and £110 a head shown by C E Blake Argoed.
FAT EWES: (540)
A sharper trade than last week which was probably helped by the lack of numbers, with a high proportion of Welsh ewes in the mix. Overall average was a respectable £52 with a top price of £106 for a pen of strong ewes from J Raymond, Lyth Bank. 13 Rams averaged £77 with a top price of £103.50 for Texel Rams from J M Davies & Sons, Llangollen.

CALVES & WEANLINGS: (59)
Quite considerably more calves forward with 45% of the entry Herefords. Only a handful of very good continentals for which there was very strong demand. The remainder were found harder to sell today. A good show of weanlings for which there was keen competition for both Limousin Steers & Heifers. Leading prices:
CALVES, Top price of £405 for a 1 month old Simmental x Blonde D’Aquataine Bull calf from Messrs Jones Moat Farm. British Blue Bulls to £335 from Messrs Evans Wern Farm. Limousin Bulls to £326, £320 & £318, Limousin Heifers to £250 from Messrs Roberts Ty Issa. British Blue Heifers to £222 from Messrs Vaughan Maesmochnant. Hereford Bulls to £190 & £186 from Messrs Lewis Crumpwell, £185 from Messrs Owen Tanycoed, £185 from Messrs Steele Treflach Hall. Hereford Heifers to £188 from Messrs Williams Nil Green, £174 from Messrs Clay Brook Farm. Montbeliarde Bulls to £112 from Messrs Johnson Pengwern Hall, £80 from Messrs Edwards Lower Sweeney.

STORE CATTLE: (62)
Only a small entry forward today with the trade not quite hitting the heights of recent months, probably not helped by the weather and the continued sluggish beef trade. Top price was £1150 (221p/kg) paid for an Angus steer aged 26 months sold by P M C & T W Edwards, Bwlchycibau. 28 steers averaged £775 (188p/kg) and 33 heifers averaged £729 (176p/kg) with notable prices including:£875 (219p/kg) & £750 (234p/kg) paid for Saler and Limousin steers aged 12 & 13 months sold by P G Roberts, Cymdu. £790 (234p/kg) paid for 3 Limousin steers aged 13 months sold by Jones Bros, Wrexham. £720 (206p/kg) paid for a Charolais heifer aged 13 months sold by Edwards Bros, Llanrhaeadr. Entries are invited for the next sales on the 26th June, 10th & 31st July.
