FAT CATTLE: (31)
A nice show of cattle forward this morning with some nice handy weight meated cattle forward met a firm trade throughout. Top slots raced to 240p for Heifers, 200p for Steers and Bulls to 194p.Highest price in the lump was £1312 for a Heifer, bottom book of 131p for a Friesian Steer. An overall market average of 198.5p/kg was achieved. Pease make sure all cattle are clean and double tagged when offered for sale.

FAT HOGGETS: (2317)
A good entry of 2317 prime hoggs on Wednesday 30th January 2019. The demand on the day for light standard and medium hoggs was strong but the heavier types experienced less competition. The overall average of the day was 188.48p/kg with the SQQ at 191.02p/kg. 799 Lights average 179.65p/kg varying from 153p/kg to 215p/kg. The amount of light hoggs shows that Oswestry is the leading market in the UK for light hoggs this time of year. The top call in this section was from W & H H Lloyd Cefnymaes with 30.5kg at £65.50. 480 Standards average 197.86p/kg varying from 171p/kg to 225p/kg. The top call was from S Jones Plas Yn Coed with 36kg at £81. 636 Mediums average 196.51p/kg varying from 167p/kg to 220p/kg. The top call was from E W & M Jones & Son Bryncoed with 41kg at £90. 225 Heavy’s average 185.33p/kg peaking at £100 from J H & J E Roberts & Sons Rolly. More hoggs are needed every week to fulfil 32 orders from 9 buyers.
FAT EWES: (672)
A respectable show considering the weather around earlier in the week. Trade still subdued with demand mixed. Overall average of £44 with a top price of £101 for a pen of pure Suffolk ewes from J H Evans & Son, Llanidloes. 18 Rams most of which were Welsh, averaged £49 with a top price of £90 for a Charolais tup from D Jones & Son, Glyndyfrdwy.

Very few numbers forward on an extremely wintery morning with trade marginally sharper all round. Increased numbers required immediately. Leading prices: British Blue Bulls to £325 from Messrs Foulkes Maesteg £308 & £248 from Messrs Owen Upper Garth. British Blue Heifers to £280 from Messrs Owen Tanycoed. Saler Heifers to £275 & £210 from Messrs Jones Lythwell. Limousin Heifers to £232 & £210 from Messrs Foulkes Selattyn Lodge.
