FAT CATTLE: (27)
A few less forward selling to a firmer trade throughout. Top slots hitting 240p/kg for Heifers, 201p/kg for Steers and 190p for Bulls. Highest in the lump was £1352 for a Steer. Bottom book of 166p/kg for an Aberdeen Angus Heifer. Please make sure all cattle are clean and double tagged when offered for sale. An overall market average of 190.5p/kg was achieved.

FAT HOGGETS: (2665)
A report on a good entry of 2665 on Wednesday 9th January 2019. The trade was very good on the day and compared very favourably with other markets which operated earlier this week and especially earlier on Wednesday morning. The Overall average was 192.5p/kg with the SQQ at 194p/kg. 617 Lights average 177p/kg varying from 138p/kg to 233p/kg. The top call came from J & R M A Thomas Albridge Lane Farm selling 30kg at £67. 876 Standards average 194.5p/kg with the variation from 171p/kg to 217p/kg. The top call in this section was from H E Pugh Grove Farm with 39kg at £84.50. Mr Pugh sold a consignment of 82 Hoggs weighing 43.5kg averaging 213p/kg. 801 Mediums levelled at 202p/kg varying from 177p/kg to 223p/kg with the top call per head from G R Moseley & Son Dairy Barn with 44.5kg at £96. 250 Heavy’s average 191p/kg varying from 160p/kg to 217p/kg. Top call of the day was £105 from Aled Davies Glanogeu.
FAT EWES: (870)
Trade broadly in line with recent weeks with perhaps the poorest ewes a touch sharper. Overall average was £47 with a top price of £130 for a Texel ewe from Thomas Evans, Halton. 26 Rams averaged £54 with a top price of £143 for a Charolais tup from R S & J A Gregory, Harmer Hill.

CALVES & WEANLINGS: (38)
An increased entry comprising of quite a few aged calves for which there was generally firm bidding, however young fresh calves were found harder to sell. An entry of 3 suckler bred calves (2½ mo) were most keenly contested. Leading prices: British Blue Bulls to £302 (thrice) from Messrs Francis New Barns Farm £270 & £245 from Messrs Lewis Crumpwell. British Blue Heifers to £255 from Messrs Francis New Barns Farm £250 from Messrs Owen Tanycoed £240 from Messrs Lewis Crumpwell. Charolais Bulls (2mo) to £308 (twice) £298 & £270 from Eyton Farms. Charolais Heifers (2mo) to £264 from Eyton Farms. Aberdeen Angus Bulls to £178 from Messrs Benbow Pump House. Hereford Heifers to £178 from Messrs Williams Nil Green. Welsh Black Bulls to £150 from Messrs Suckley Weston Farm.
British Blue Bulls (2mo) to £345 from Eyton Farms. Suckler Bred Bulls (2½ mo) Charolais Bulls to £530 Limousin Bulls to £505 & £500 from Messrs Tudor Gwerclas Farm.
STORE CATTLE: (77)
A seasonal entry for the first sale of the year. Some good stores on show were met with a solid trade throughout. Top price was £1285 (211p/kg) paid for a 21 month old Limousin steer sold by W E Owen, Llanyblodwell.
33 steers averaged £992 (193p/kg) and 44 heifers averaged £915 (191p/kg) with notable prices including:
W E Owen, Llanyblodwell continued their run of cattle with Charolais steers aged 19-22 months selling for £1145 (218p/kg), £1140 (207p/kg) & £1070 (212p/kg).
£1120 (213p/kg) paid for a Charolais steer aged 18 months and £990 (206p/kg) paid for 2 Charolais heifers aged 19 months all sold by D Jones & Son, Llanwddyn.
£1075 (209p/kg) & £1160 (201p/kg), £1130 (202p/kg) & £930 (204p/kg) paid for Limousin heifers aged 16-22 months, all sold by B T Jones & S Ingram, Pontfadog.
