FAT LAMBS: (2312)
Similar numbers of lambs forward sold to a competitive trade throughout to average very close to 170p/kg, which would be a slightly improved price on Monday/Tuesday market averages, meated lambs of any weight were in most demand selling up to top prices of 188p/kg and £97.50 per head. Leaner lambs more difficult to sell, most improved trade was for the well meated 32/38kg middle weight lambs.
Lights average 160p/kg to 183p/kg twice from H E & M L Evans Cynynnion Fawr & G L Jones Henblas
Standards average 167.5p/kg to 184p/kg from J & R F Howell Woodlands
Mediums average 171p/kg to 188p/kg twice from R T Jones & Co Rhydygro & H C Roberts Orseddwen
Heavy’s average 170p/kg to 181p/kg from G E Jones Red House Farm
Others average 160p/kg to 166p/kg from G Williams Caethro
Overall average 168.5p/kg.
FAT EWES: (904)
Numbers at a consistent level with a lot of plainer ewes on show. Trade perhaps a touch firmer with a few more grazing buyers in attendance. Top price was £104 going to a strong Texel ewe from I G Evans & Son, Halton. A mixed selection of Rams averaged only £48 with a top price of £67.50 going to a Lleyn Tup from E M D & S G Morris, Sweeney.

CALVES & WEANLINGS: (36)
Reduced numbers but a decent show of calves with trade remaining relatively good for best quality continental Males and good friesians, poorer types remain difficult to sell. Leading prices: British Blue Bulls to £305 from Davies Lower Fawnog & Messrs Lewis Caenymynydd £300 from Messrs Griffiths Ashcroft. Limousin Bulls to £290 from Messrs Jones Ladyhill £270 from Messrs Gilman Birch Hall. British Blue Heifers to £290 from Messrs Evans Pendugwm. Limousin Heifers to £270 from Messrs Lewis Caenymynydd. Friesian Bulls to £122 from Messrs Jones Lloran Ganol £96 & £58 from Messrs Gilman Birch Hall.
Limousin Bulls (3mo) to £465, £440, £435 & £400 Limousin Heifers (3mo) to £360 from Messrs Hodgson Arddleen Grange. British Blue Bulls (2mo) to £390 from Messrs Owen Upper Garth. Simmental Bulls to £375 & £340 Simmental Heifers to £330 from Messrs Evans Pendugwm.
STORE CATTLE: (182)
A good entry of cattle with a lot more younger cattle on show. Averages may look back a bit but this would be more to do with the cattle on show rather than trade. Top priced steer was £1235 (222p/kg) paid for 3 Limousin steers aged 24-25 months sold by R G P Roberts & Son, Hengoed. Top price heifer was £1240 paid for a Blue heifer aged 23 months sold by G & S Lammie, Kenwick Park. 79 steers averaged £905 (197p/kg) & 87 heifers averaged £782 (188p/kg) with notable prices including: Thomas Brothers, Llanfyllin presented an excellent run of cattle with Limousin steers aged 16-25 months selling for £1110 (227p/kg), £1095 (221p/kg), £1080 (220p/kg), £890 (234p/kg) & £775 (218p/kg) and
Charolais & Limousin heifers aged 18-26 months selling for £1100 (232p/kg), £1010 (224p/kg), £945 (220p/kg) & £920 (227p/kg). R J Slater & Son, Baschurch sold a Limousin steer aged 15 months for £1045 (227p/kg) & 3 Bazadaise steers aged 16 months for £1070 (218p/kg). J Davies, Llanfihangel sold a Charolais heifer aged 17 months for £990 (239p/kg). Entries are invited for weekly sales to be held throughout the rest of September and October.
