FAT LAMBS: (5544)
A fantastic entry of 5544 prime lambs on Wednesday 15th August. The weighing commenced from 6.15am with a steady throughput over the two scales resulting in the entire lamb yard pens being full with an overspill into the store cattle pens. This number put Oswestry in the top two markets for throughput in England this week which goes to show that there is a good customer base here from both Vendors and Purchasers alike. The demand for Medium, Heavy and overweight lambs was strong with the light and standard lambs, especially the native breeds, being slightly harder sold. The Ram/Tup lambs for the Qurbani festival were all sold to meet a satisfactory trade.
Lights average 159p/kg to 185p/kg from M J Tomlins Wigmore
Standards average 173.5p/kg to 218p/kg from M & R Morris Maestanyglwyden

FAT EWES: (2105)
The largest entry of ewes in living memory! Many thanks to all our vendors for their continued support and their patience on what was a very hectic day! Unfortunately the trade did dampen the party slightly with Welsh and plainer ewes hardest to sell. Strong ewes still a good trade. Overall average at £31 with a top price of £100 for ewes from G T Hughes, Derwen. 29 Rams averaged £63 with a top price of £100 for tups from M & G V Ellis & Sons, Llanfechain.
Please Note : All sheep entering the Market must be tagged.
