Good morning from OLA where yesterday we saw around 3500 sheep of all sorts to include some couples again and 250 odd cattle of all categories and all to be sold on for good trade all in all a good day at the office, lets hope the forecast is wrong for next week and the weather is kind on our early lambs!!
FAT CATTLE: (37)
Another good show forward again today sold to a solid trade throughout. Not as many smart heifers on show today but what was here were good meat. Top slots hit 243p for Heifers, 223p for Steers and 162p for Bulls. Highest price in the lump was £1414 for a Steer, bottom book of 134p for a Friesian Bull. An overall market average of 199p was achieved.

FAT HOGGETS: (2270)
A good entry of 2270 prime hoggs on Wednesday 21 February 2018. The sheep on offer varied in quality which was reflected in the prices with the variation from 122p/kg for superlight lambs to 228p/kg for the top quality export lambs. The yard had 12 buyers representing 32 different orders. Again Oswestry fell in the top three markets in England for the number of sheep sold each week. 608 Lights average 172.46p/kg varying from 137p/kg to 219p/kg the top call was from R O Thomas Bryncoch with 30kg at £65.80. 589 Standards average 194.63p/kg varying from 172p/kg to 228p/kg with D N Bennett & Son Upper Hall selling 39kg at £88.80. 648 Mediums levelled at a staggering 214.68p/kg varying from 175p/kg to 228p/kg from Hughes Bros Penybryn with 44kg at £100.20. The 190 Heavy’s levelled at a record 213.84p/kg with N C Jones The Old Rectory hitting the top slot with 46kg at 106.50p/kg being 232p/kg.
FAT EWES: (795)
A few less around but the trade remained broadly in line with recent weeks with the strongest ewes best sold. Overall average was £42 with a top price of £110 for ewes from Hughes Bros, Glyn Ceiriog. 39 Rams averaged £52 with a top price of £110 for a tup from D A & M G Griffiths & Son, Rhiwlas.
STORE SHEEP: (42)
An increasing number of couples forward sold to a good trade with singles selling to £125 and twins to £130 all from J H Williams Fron. Further entries due next week please contact the market office if you’re looking to buy or sell.

Consistent numbers which again attracted a good show of buyers and a level trade. Top price was £1290 (203p/kg) paid for a Charolais x steer aged 21 months sold by
G E Davies & Son, Pedairffordd.
86 steers averaged £949 (201p/kg) with notable prices including:
£1130 (231p/kg) paid for Limousin & Charolais steers from D E & R M Williams, Llansilin.
£1075 (231p/kg) & £1050 (231p/kg) paid for Charolais & Limousin x steers aged 20 – 22 months sold by J D Jones, Bronygarth.
£780 (244p/kg) paid for a Limousin steer aged 10 months sold by M Jones & Son, Llanerfyl.
67 heifers averaged £833 (189p/kg) with notable prices including:
£1060 (214p/kg) paid for 2 Limousin x heifers aged 20 months sold by W Clark & Son, Woolston.
£860 (216p/kg) paid for 2 Charolais x heifers aged 11 months sold by T M Morgan, Llanerfyl.
£730 (257p/kg) & £705 (235p/kg) paid for Charolais x heifers aged 8 months sold by R E Jones & Son, Brooks.

U72 & CULL COWS: (13)
A good trade overall, Cows 114.5p/kg from 86p/kg for Dolly to 139p/kg for a nice grazer type, best Friesian to 135p/kg.
