FAT CATTLE: (16)
A top quality show of Prime Cattle forward this week that met a tremendous trade throughout. New vendors returning home delighted with both weights and trade!
More cattle are needed each week to satisfy the demand!
Heifers: Top price of the day per kilo was achieved by new vendor J H & S W Burns, Dan-y-Deri, Corwen who sold a 500kg Charolais x heifer for 255p/kg = £1275.
This was closely followed by another new vendor A & A Williams, Caenog, Corwen who sold a 540kg heifer for 249p/kg = £1344.60.

Steers: 3 fantastic Limousin steers forward from regular vendor F W Humphreys & Sons, Brook House, Welshpool that averaged 621kg @ 234p/kg = £1452.

650 @ 229p/kg = £1488.50

FAT HOGGETS: (2665)
Hoggets peak at 324p/kg at Oswestry, 45kg making £146!
An excellent entry of 2665 prime hoggs on Wednesday 18th March 2020. The overall average on the day was 243.9p/kg with the SQQ at a staggering 246.07p/kg. The corresponding sale last year saw 2100 hoggs averaging 195p/kg. The quality on offer was very good with good consignments of well fleshed hoggets forward. 224 Lights averaged 238.5p/kg varying from 222p/kg to 283p/kg. The top call was from J T Jones Ty Newydd Cyffin with 31.5kg at £89. 699 Standards averaged 246.15p/kg varying from 211p/kg to 303p/kg.
E J Jackson topped this section with 37kg at £112. 1098 Mediums levelled at a strong 247.11p/kg varying from 202p/kg to 324p/kg. The top call came from M & S Jones Lower Forest Farm with 45kg at £146. The Jones Family sold 52 Hoggs weighing 45kg to average 289p/kg or £130.88. 434 Heavy’s averaged 243.80p/kg and up to 291p/kg or £137. The overweights averaged 217.92p/kg and up to £141 from N C Jones The Old Rectory. The 2665 hoggs sold on the day averaged £99.44. More sheep are required each week to fulfil the demand of 11 buyers representing 29 orders, ample covered facilities are available for sorting.
FAT EWES: (707)
An unbelievable trade for stronger ewes, whilst the large proportion of plainer ewes on show saw a more modest increase. Overall average was £73 with a top price of £193 going to 8 Suffolk ewes from C Jones, Racecourse whose overall average for 28 ewes sold was £147! A small entry of 31 mainly hill bred tups averaged £97 with a top price of £120 for rams from Evans Bros, Rhiwlas.

CALVES & WEANLINGS: (42)
A much better selection of calves which included 12 superb Limousins sold to a considerably sharper trade for the best with a fresh buyer from North Wales helping to bolster trade. A decent presentation of weanlings were well sold. Leading prices: Calves: Limousin Bulls to £345 & £305 from Messrs Jones Ladyhill, £315 & £285 from Messrs Jerman Coedmawr, £305 (twice) & £302 from Messrs Hodgson Arddleen Grange. Limousin Heifers to £300 & £240 (twice) from Messrs Hodgson Arddleen Grange. British Blue Bulls to £285 from Messrs Francis New Barns. British Blue Heifers to £230 from Messrs Owen Tanycoed. Friesian Bulls to £140 from Messrs Foulkes Maesteg.
Weanlings: British Blue Steers (8mo) to £435, British Blue Heifers (8mo) to £405 & £350 all from Messrs Hughes Old Sontley Hall.
STORE CATTLE: (249)
An excellent selection of stores on show. Even with the current uncertainties, cattle were still in demand with the trade overall looking unaltered at present. Top price was £1185 (176p/kg) paid for a Charolais heifer aged 26 months sold by D W Roberts, Penybryn.
143 steers averaged £910 (198p/kg) with notable prices including:
£975 (244p/kg), £975 (240p/kg) & £935 (237p/kg) paid for Charolais & Limousin steers aged 10-12 months sold by J M Tudor, Corwen.
£960 (230p/kg) & £895 (234p/kg) paid for Limousin steers aged 11-12 months sold by Edwards Bros, Llanrhaeadr.
£900 (228p/kg) paid for 2 Charolais steers aged 10 months sold by G M & H I Evans, Llanfair Caereinion.
106 heifers averaged £898 (196p/kg) with notable prices including:
£1050 (223p/kg) paid for a Charolais heifer aged 17 months sold by J Hamlett, Ruyton.
£855 (223p/kg) paid for 7 Charolais heifers aged 12 months sold by Edwards Bros, Llanrhaeadr.
£770 (222p/kg) paid for 2 Charolais heifers aged 10 months sold by W H R Howells & Son, Llanerfyl.
